Starting Blocks: Practice & Meet Details
It’s totally your choice on Wednesday to attend either the 1st practice (*-8:45), the starting block practice, or both, whatever works for your schedule.
Block usage at MOC: swimmers ages 10 & under will not be going off the blocks in their individual events since they are swimming 25 yard races, which will start from the center bulkhead and end at the wall. The only exception is for relay swimmers on legs 1& 3 (back and fly for Medley and legs 1 & 3 for Free Relay), where they have the option to do so, but using the blocks is not required.
Note: For swimmers 6 & Under and typically 7&8, the starting blocks often don’t help because most swimmers in these age groups dive more down than out. They are still fun to jump from though! We encourage all swimmers to come to the starting block practice so they can get used to the pool environment at Don Cook Natatorium and try out the blocks.
For swimmers 11 & Up, all individual events will start from blocks. For relays, legs 2 & 4 will start from the bulkhead.
At All Stars, all starts and relay starts will be from starting blocks, but the same option exists to not use them.
Please reach out with any questions - this is a lot of info.
